Lead-In Groove
The wide groove at the record’s edge where play begins.
The lead-in is the shallow spiral at the rim that guides the stylus into the first track. It’s the visual cue for cueing by eye and the start of every side. Its wider pitch is why the outermost band of a record looks distinct from the music.
