Glossary · Phono Stages
Loading
The impedance a cartridge sees at the phono input.
Loading is the resistance (and capacitance) the phono stage presents to the cartridge. MM cartridges expect a standard 47 kΩ; MC cartridges are sensitive to resistive loading that tunes their top-end balance. Adjustable loading is a hallmark of enthusiast phono stages.
