Storage & Display

Sleeves, crates, shelving — protect and show off the collection.

How to store records so they stay flat, clean and findable: inner and outer sleeves, upright storage, capacity that scales, and display that doesn’t warp what it shows. The cheap habits that save expensive records.

Asked & answered

Do inner sleeves matter?

A lot. The paper sleeves many records ship in shed fibers and scratch the surface. Anti-static poly-lined inner sleeves (MoFi, Big Fudge) are a few cents each and are the single cheapest thing you can do to keep records clean and quiet.

Can I stack records?

Store them vertically, never stacked flat — weight and heat warp the ones underneath. Keep them upright and snug (not leaning) on a sturdy shelf or crate, away from radiators and direct sun. A warped record is often unrecoverable.

Is 180-gram vinyl better?

Heavier vinyl is more stable on the platter and less prone to warps, but weight alone doesn’t improve sound — the mastering and pressing quality do. A great 140 g pressing beats a mediocre 180 g one. Treat gram weight as durability, not fidelity.
